Only a few days left of prime holiday shopping and we’d like to encourage all of you to get out and buy local! Shifting some of the dollars you might spend otherwise spend online or with national chains is a huge boost to our local economy. Studies show that for every dollar spent in a locally owned Utah business, four times more of that dollar stays right here in our state, in our city, and in our local schools. Buying local also preserves neighborhood character and provides local jobs.
We recommend the always-classy Bloomingsales for everything from fresh-cut flowers to Christmas decor galore! It’s the perfect spot to shop for jewelry, fashion, table, scents… any gift for those with discerning taste. Plus you can get fresh 2 stems for the price of 1 every Saturday and Sunday after 2pm (hint, hint gentlemen).
Bill and Diane at The Tutoring Toy have been wrapping surprises—with crinkly-paper bows—for kids of all ages since 1988. Looking for the perfect toy? They’ll help you find just what you’re looking for and make you feel like a million bucks in the meantime. The holidays are not complete without at least one trip to this childhood paradise and neighborhood icon.
Step inside and take a deep breath, Thyme and Place is our new favorite escape from the smog and busyness of the holidays! Owner Melissa gorgeously curates her botanical boutique with local and international (fair trade) plants and wares. Plus she hosts a delightful lineup of potting and wreath-making classes, including classes for private events. Stop by this holiday: she is the only local distributor of Haws of London watering cans and amaryllis (bulbs larger than softballs!); has a gorgeous array of locally-crafted jewelry, art and lotions; and, the store is chalk full of botanical ideas for holiday decorating.
Finally, we wouldn’t forget that extra-special something for your fur baby this holiday! Aspen and her crew at Desert Raw offers tasty, all-natural, non-GMO food and supplements. One of her most popular products,”Healthy Hemp”—totally legal and totally awesome hemp (cough cannabis) for dogs—is sure to help everyone relax this holiday!! In all seriousness, it’s a product that makes a world of difference for many pets suffering from anxiety or pain. Not only is the store local but so is the hemp (uh, made, not grown)!
